Your Character's Name: Audra Harrison

“I’m your son.” Ray said. I gasped. What was this, a fucking soap opera? We all stood still, Ray and a very attractive man, ‘The Detective' facing off.
“It can’t be,” The Detective said. “Prove it.” Ray talked about his mother, and told the detective that he missed his wife a lot, and still thinks about her. This caused the man to react in a way I didn’t expect. He pulled a gun.
“Like father like son, I guess.” I held back a laugh. I glanced at Ray who showed no sign of worry or fear. He spewed out some sappy bullshit about his childhood and Detective’s favorite colors and movies. As he spoke, Detective slowly lowered his gun.
Percy…it’s really you!” He walked towards Ray while Roen, Rabies and I yelled, “Percy?!” in unison, while laughing our asses off. ‘Percy’ just isn’t a name you’d expect from a man who acts tough all the time. He glared back at us.
The father and son hugged each other, The Detective talking about how surprised he was to see him. I tried imagining what a reunion with my father would be like, until I realized that even if I was face-to-face with my biological father, I would have no idea what he looked like. Would I look like him? Or did I take after my mother? I think if I had a child, I’d want to see what they looked like. Ray knew his father right away, and despite the fact that the two had been separated for so long, here they were hugging and talking as if the years were just mere minutes.
If I did meet my parents, our reunion wouldn’t be so sweet. It would be full of angry yelling, name-spewing, and things being broken. I’d ask why they left me, and I’d ask why I wasn’t good enough, and I’d ask why they were so fucking selfish. They probably just wanted to cover their own asses in this world, ain’t that lovely. Why did they have me? I think that’s the one question I’d want answered. If you didn’t want me, why bother having me? Claire from the orphanage had an abortion. Sarah’s boyfriend was a ‘doctor’ (or so he called himself) and he brought her into the garage and shoved something in her. It worked, because she was bleeding and sleeping for days. I didn't exactly agree with that, but maybe it's better than giving birth to a kid you don't want.
The Detective asked us to stay, and he focused on Rabies & I when he said it. I wasn’t gonna complain. Ray was a good-looking dude, and there was no arguing that he got those looks from his dad. His dad was tall, maybe around six feet, with shaggy blonde hair. Blonde hair is my favorite, ‘cause my own had darkened and turned into more of a dirty-blond. He had soft grey eyes and looked fit. I say he only looked fit because much to my dismay, he was fully clothed.
“What do we get if we stay?” Rabies asked.
“I can offer you shelter, protection, and food. But I can only help you if you help me. Can you promise to work with me, to make this world a better place? Can you assist in fighting the bad, and raising the good?” He looked at us.
“Is that all you can give us?” I asked in a flirty voice. Being Ray’s kin, he caught on.
“The world is in shambles,” he answered. “That is the most pertinent thing right now.” Pfft, fine. I don’t get why people think they’re going to be able to fix this shit-hole world, but hey, more power to them. Ray did tell me once that I didn’t care about anything, and he'd said it with spite. Ray was hard-headed, and I was the definition of lax. I’ll do anything just to have something to do, but he does missions to get shit done. Clearly, his dad was the same way, but more mature in the let’s-ignore-the-danger-and-just-fool-around area, unfortunately.
“I’m in.” Ray said. Rabies agreed. She was staring longingly at The Detective too. Ray was staring at her with a jealous rage; I thought lasers might shoot out of his eyes, he was so fixated on her. I foresaw problems arising were it just to be the three of them. Plus, I didn’t want to leave them. These guys were like the family I never had.
“Yeah, I’ll stay. Ain’t got anywhere else to go.” I responded.
“I won’t.” Roen said, and we all turned to him.
“What?! Why not?!” I yelled. It upset me. Why would he leave? The closest thing to a father I ever had was going to bail on me?
“I have some old military buddies milling around. I’m going to go find them, and bring them back here. They can help us too. I think everything will go more smoothly the more people and weapons we have.” Roen answered. It made sense, but it didn’t make me feel better. I walked over to give him a hug.
“Thanks Audra,” He said. “Keep an eye on Ray & Rabies, will you?” He said quietly in my ear.
“Yeah, I’ll try.” I answered. This wasn’t the time to be a bitch. As angry as I was that he was leaving, I wanted him to come back. I wanted the loving reunion that Ray and his father had, even if it wasn’t with my real dad. Roen would come back, and we would all be a family once again.
“Well, this is a drag,” Rabies interrupted, as Roen walked out. “Anyone want some rundown?” I held out my hand for some of her drugs, and Ray and his dad followed suit.
“Wanna go downstairs for a bit, Rabies?” Ray asked. I guess distance makes the sex drive grow fonder, in his case. She nodded and followed after him.
“What am I supposed to do while you guys are gone?” I called after them, pissed they’d leave me alone with this dude I’ve never before met.
“I think I can help you out there.” The detective said with a devious smirk. And I knew what he meant.
